Telcorp's journey began in the early seventies in Durban, South Africa, with humble family-business roots during a transformative period in the country's history. From operating a successful family restaurant business, at the T Jetty, Ocean Terminal Durban Harbour, the Naidu family's entrepreneurial spirit evolved into a passion for engineering, technology and telecommunications.

The Journey

A Family Built on Enterprise & Engineering

In the eighties, alongside the family restaurant business, the family also operated an engineering and automotive reconditioning business equipped with specialised machinery and engineering equipment. Engines were completely stripped down, inspected and precision-engineered — including cylinder reboring, cylinder-head skimming, gasket replacement and piston replacement — before being carefully reassembled and returned to service.

This was more than mechanical repair. It required precision, technical knowledge, engineering discipline and an understanding of how individual components work together to restore a complete system. That engineering mindset became part of the family's DNA.

Engineering with a Purpose

The family's success in business also created an opportunity to give back to the community. Where families or individuals could not afford the full cost of essential vehicle repairs, the business would often repair and restore vehicles for members of the community at little or no cost, helping people remain mobile and able to work and support their families.

Business created opportunity. Engineering solved problems. And success created an opportunity to serve others.

Our telecommunications business began with the successful award of Government tender projects, delivering conventional PBX systems during the early evolution of business communications. As technology transformed, so did Telcorp.

We progressed from traditional PBX systems into GSM, Least Cost Routing (LCR) and VoIP, and subsequently into increasingly sophisticated LTE wireless broadband and fibre-optic networks.

From Engineering to Telecommunications:
